Interesting factoids:

There are two countries which have signed but not ratified the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child, a human-rights document. Those two countries are Somalia and the United States.

Countries that, since 1990, have executed people for offenses committed as a minor: China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Iran, Pakistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.

Hmm, I'm not sure exactly how important ratifying the first piece is given how protective of children America is, as opposed to Somalia.

And the second, well America is one of the few major countries in the world that still holds the death penalty. And, notably in the case of high schoolers who kill high schooler (which is one of the situations where I distinctly recall prosecutors pushing for the DP), their crimes definitely do not merit a simple stay in youth camp.
