I blame the economy

An email I received this morning, the third of it's kind:
Thank you for submitting your application to [university]. We very much appreciate your interest in the School.

You can check the status of your application at any time and see which documents and test scores have been received by logging into your account. We anticipate that admission decisions will be announced sometime around the third week in March.

We have received a record-breaking number of applications this year, and consequently still have some credentials that need to be processed and entered into the system. If you have submitted materials that are not appearing online as being received, this probably means that your credentials have been delivered to our office but have not yet been entered into the system. We are updating these records as quickly as possible, so please do not re-send documents. We will notify you if your application is incomplete.

We appreciate your patience and understanding, and thank you again for your interest in the [school].
Meaning: the economy blows so hard right now that no one can get a job so they're all going back to school. You're screwed, dude.

Argh. Just tell me I didn't get accepted so I can stop waiting, okay?

Just one more piece!

I do not for the life of me understand how anyone ever wrote anything prior to the ability to just switch windows to Tetris and idly rotate falling blocks as you mull over ideas.

*sigh*

This makes me literally feel an ache to be in London again.

I think that, like many things, you Get It, or you don't. Either you see pictures like that and just yearn to be there in them, or it's, "Eh, pretty nice photos."

I love living in the mountains, and despite not wanting to live there Philly will always hold a spot in my heart...but there's no place in the world that can compete with London. I can't even describe why, and I think that's fairly common. I believe Peter Ackroyd tried in this book, and it took him some 800 pages (a fantastic book, by the way - I hugely recommend it). No matter how many times people try, no matter how many words are spoken or pages written, London will just remain something too big, too vibrant, and too alive to truly describe.

Oh, I'm deeply ashamed

So, uh, apparently, the young lady in this clip has an impenetrable accent.

Honestly, had I not watched it in that context, I probably wouldn't have noticed anything remotely remarkable about it: yeah, she mumbles a little bit but she sounds perfectly normal. Ah, Philadelphia, birthplace of some terrible crimes against the English language. (Caveat: "Yous" is a perfectly acceptable pluralization in casual conversation. "Y'all," and particularly "All y'all" is never, ever acceptable.)

The typed comments are retarded, though.

Heh

I know that eventually the shiny will wear off and I'll go back to my normal self, but this is really damn nice to see:In other news, my senior essay is going to kill me, so I'm going to go take a nice hot shower, drink a beer, and go to bed stupidly early.

At last!

This man is now the President of the United States of America:Yeah.

I could have done without Rick Warren's opening prayer, but it wasn't too offensive, all things considered. Aretha singing rocked, of course, as did the Itzhak Perlman/Yo-Yo Ma/two other guys quartet. (Seriously, with names like those, the question was just exactly how awesome will it be, not will it be awesome.) The poem was okay; I think I would have liked it better had the actual reading been a bit more dynamic. The VP's oath seemed weirdly rushed, and Roberts kind of fumbled the Presidential oath, Obama tried to recover, and they kind of tripped over each other a bit.

Now: the speech. "Restore science to it's rightful place"? Excellent! Including non-believers in the laundry list of religions? Fantastic! Talk about not abandoning Constitutional ideals, refusing to shift the blame for the economic crisis, busting out the George Washington quotes, and pretty much making Mr. 43 squirm? Hell yes.

Closing benediction was 'meh' until he went all Dr. Seuss meets Dr. King and then it was awesome. (Also? I totally dig that man's facial hair for some insane reason)
.
Other bonuses: Biden apparently taking pictures for Malia, who in five years will be breaking the heart of every boy around her; not a single mention of eeeeeevil; a sort of (horrible) satisfaction at seeing Cheney injured; sitting through an entire Presidential speech without rage nor laughter at horrible misstatements, lies, and crimes against the English language.

Congratulations, Mr. President, and best of luck.
